Analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of NC high speed EDM machining technology has solved a lot of difficult problems of deep hole drilling which have puzzled the related industries for a long time. Some of its processing characteristics are irreplaceable by other processing methods. The advantages of NC High-speed EDM (1) the machining aperture range is generally in the range of 0.3 mm to 0.3 mm, and the ratio of depth to diameter can reach more than 300:1. This is a very important advantage compared with other processes - for the processing of small diameter and deep holes. Due to the use of water-based working fluid as the processing medium in NC High-speed EDM piercing machine, hydrogen with different dielectric coefficient and water will be produced under the action of inter electrode voltage due to its high conductivity, which will lead to the increase of discharge gap, increase the breakdown delay and improve the efficiency. In addition, due to the small pulse interval in the processing process, the pulse frequency is greatly increased, and the effective utilization rate of the pulse power supply is greatly increased, which further improves the efficiency and obtains the high-efficiency productivity. (2) Generally, the machining speed can reach 20 ~ 60mm / min, and the influence of machining depth is relatively small. The speed of EDM is similar to that of machining. Moreover, compared with the conventional EDM technology, the water-based working fluid flows through the working gap at a high speed, which can quickly discharge the corrosion in the discharge gap, and has good cooling performance, so the whole process is fast, the process of deionization is fast, and the precision is high. (3) Directly from the slope, curved surface, processing blind hole, deep hole, oblique hole and special-shaped hole. (4) Not limited by the hardness and toughness of the material, it can also process stainless steel, quenched steel, cemented carbide, Qin alloy, quenched steel and other difficult to machine materials. However, the hardness and toughness of hand materials and cutting tools are limited by common processing methods. (5) Generally, the size consistency of machining holes can be about 0.03mm ~ 0.05mm, the roundness is about 0.02mm ~ 0.03mm, and the surface roughness Ra is about 2.5um, which can meet certain requirements of perpendicularity. In EDM, there is a certain dielectric constant between the tool electrode and the workpiece, and there is a certain breakdown gap (discharge gap) during EDM. Therefore, the size of the workpiece after EDM is not completely consistent with that of the tool electrode. Moreover, the discharge gap changes with the changes of electrical parameters, electrode materials, working fluid and other factors, thus affecting the machining accuracy. The larger the gap, the worse the copy accuracy, especially for the machining surface with complex shape. If the electrode is a sharp angle, and due to the equal distance of discharge gap, the workpiece is rounded. Therefore, in order to reduce the machining size error, we should adopt the weaker machining standards to reduce the discharge gap, and in addition, we must make the machining process as stable as possible. (2) It is easy to produce taper and fillet. Due to the long processing time and high loss of the lower part of the tool electrode, the electrode becomes smaller. Due to the existence of the electrochemical corrosion products at the entrance, abnormal discharge (i.e. "secondary discharge") is easy to occur due to the intervention of the electrochemical corrosion products, resulting in machining slope. This requires that the high-pressure water quality working fluid must have a certain speed and continue to work. (3) Tool electrode wear is serious. The tool electrode must be conductive metal to conduct electric energy, so the tool electrode also has loss under the impact of high temperature and charged particles, especially in the case of improper selection of electrical parameters, the electrode loss is more obvious.
